Welcome to Central Sound Regional STEM Education Foundation

Empowering minds, enabling discoveries

We work to create opportunities for underrepresented students who seek careers in STEM and we support educators implementing project based learning.

Gary Foss, CSRSEF Chairman, Honored at WSU

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to science education as well as his decades-long career in the aerospace industry, Foss is being recognized by his alma mater with an honorary doctorate degree.

Engaging Students in Project Based Learning

Central Sound Regional STEM Education Foundation supports project based learning opportunities for underrepresented students and provides professional development for educators. Through project-based learning, students improve their communications and problem-solving skills, as well as their understanding of science and engineering processes. Our programs include:

Science and Engineering Fair

The annual Central Sound Regional Science and Engineering Fair (CSRSEF) offers high school students a platform to showcase their scientific research and engineering projects. Students gain feedback from professionals, and compete for local, national, and international recognition. In 2024, nearly 300 students competed in the fair.

Teacher Training and Support

We provide resources and training for teachers to implement project-based learning approaches in their classrooms. By supporting educators, we aim to create sustainable and impactful STEM programs that inspire students year-round.

Industry STEM Mentorship

Our mentorship program aims to connect experienced professionals and alumni with current students. This initiative helps guide underserved students through their projects and foster a collaborative learning environment.

Student-Led STEM Programs

This program connects high school students with elementary and middle school students. High school students work with younger students to implement Arduino, code and other hands-on STEM labs to support and foster innovative thinking in grades K-8.
